a work of first impressions, early observations, and exploratory hunches.

I’ve barely been here is a series of discreet sound-making systems that interact and overlap to create an environmental work that best experienced in the space. The work aims to embody the land and its inhabitants utilizing locally sourced objects, field recordings, omnipresent fog horns, and the sense of the landscape. The piece can be brought to spaces outside of Marin County, in a hope to transport the specific sense of place that is found on the coastline above San Francisco. The installation could also be remade with materials from any other place – inserting recordings, objects, and oral histories from any locale to create a locus of identity for that community.

During my time at Headlands Center for the Arts I hiked the land, read books, made field recordings, created a series of casual investigations into the environment surrounding the Headlands themselves. From this time came this installation as well as a collection of experiments with sound, objects, and actions. Documentation of these experiments can be found on my flickr page here.
